Canoeing

Open Canoes are hugely versatile craft, capable of navigating white water rivers, crossing huge open lakes, being rafted together, sailed, poled up stream - the list goes on still!

If you want to undertake a canoe journey that involves some or maybe even all of the above - Longtown is the place, with a whole host of rivers and lakes on our doorstep, it couldn't be better!

Who can go canoeing?

Anyone! No previous experience is required as our qualified instructional team will teach you the skills you need to paddle down a river, along the canal or play games on a lake. Boats will normally be shared between 2 or 3 people depending on numbers and previous experience.

Where do we canoe?

In South Wales we are very lucky to have a whole host of venues available to us. We might paddle down the River Wye, from Glasbury to Hay-on-Wye as a day trip or we can paddle much further on a 2 day expedition.

If the rivers are too high we can use the Brecon to Monmouthshire canal, learning skills and doing a journey looking at the wildlife, the locks and taking in all the history of the canal.

On our specialist canoe sport courses we also get in a minibus, strap the boats to a trailer and travel down to the Gower Peninsula. Here you can try your hand at kayak surfing and sea kayaking and do a short journey round the bays of the Gower.

Will I need any specialist equipment?

No, we will provide you with all the equipment you need to get you on the water. We will give you a buoyancy aid, a helmet and a paddle.
