Gorge Walking

Hidden amongst the mountains of the Brecon Beacons National Park, mountain rivers plunge over waterfalls in steep, rocky valleys.

We can take you to see them, but it won't be the easy way. You'll be wearing waterproofs and boots, a helmet, belt and buoyancy aid.

You'll be by the river, in the river, sometimes under the river and perhaps even standing behind a waterfall. Helping each other is the key to the day. Sometimes it's the only way to safe success.

Bring a waterproof camera for shots that no-one will believe.

Who can go gorge walking?

We can offer different gorges with different challenges to suit the needs of the group. It does help to be reasonably fit as there is some walking, some climbing and some swimming involved but it is not compulsory.

Where do we gorge walk?

We travel to the heart of the Brecon Beacons to do our gorge walks. The two gorges we use most often differ greatly and offer completely different challenges.

The Sychryd Gorge is a narrow, technical gorge. There are slides, caves, climbs and small jumps all the way up the gorge leading up to the final big jump and a crawl under a waterfall.

The Mellte Gorge is much bigger. This tends to be for bigger, older groups. Everything here is on a much larger scale to the Sychryd. You will be wet straight away. Crawl and walk behind waterfalls, perform river crossings with the water constantly trying to bowl you over and jump from what look like ridiculous heights when you’re stood on top of them.

Will I need any specialist equipment?

No. We will provide you with all the equipment you need to make your gorge walk as safe and as comfortable and possible. We’ll give you some waterproofs, some wellies and a helmet.
