Not to be mistaken for canoeing, in a kayak you sit down and use a double bladed paddle. Kayaking is a hard activity to get the hang of, but under our expert guidance, you'll soon be paddling round the gentle meanders, and, maybe not so gentle, rapids of the River Wye. The sense of achievement is fantastic.
If you are an experienced kayaker we could teach you how to tackle some of the harder rivers of South Wales. |

On our canoe sport weeks we look at the different types of the sport. White-water or river kayaking, sea kayaking and surf kayaking, we’ll do them all!
Who can go kayaking?
Everyone! You don’t to have had any previous experience as we can tailor the session to suit what you want to get out of it. Beginners can start on our kayak training pool on the centre grounds then progress from there. If you’ve paddled before we can work towards British Canoe Union paddlepower and star awards.
Where do we kayak?
On our centre grounds we a kayak training pool specifically designed for learning basic skills before you head out onto open water. We can learn skills, play kayak polo and play any number of games.
The River Wye is within easy reach and is a fantastic venue for kayaking. With flat sections for learning moving water skills and increasing confidence and sections of rapids for learning white-water skills.
Once the paddlers feel confident on the River Wye there will be the possibility of trying some of the harder rivers in South Wales.
To try different disciplines we can head down to the Gower Peninsula to give sea and surf kayaking a try.
Will I need any specialist equipment?
We will provide you with all the kit you need. We have different types of kayaks to suit the different disciplines. We’ll give you a paddle, a buoyancy aid a helmet, a spraydeck and a cag that will help to keep you warm.
If you have any of your own kit such as a wet suit or paddling footwear feel free to bring it along.
