In South Wales and the Brecon Beacons you really will be spoilt for choice with some of the UK's finest mountain bike routes.

Longtown Outdoor Education Centre is ideally located as a base from which to get out and ride. So let us make it easy for you.

We can offer expert advice and guidance on the best trails in the area, along with comfortable and affordable accomodation that will help you to relax at the end of a long day in the saddle.

The centre has the facilities to keep your bike both clean and secure, and we can also arrange transport to and from venues.

Who can go Mountain Biking?

Mountain biking is an activity that can accomodate people of different ages and varied abilities. From complete beginner through to expert there will be something here for you.

There are many way-marked routes and purpose built trails available that are graded according to difficulty and distance. Some will take you over high mountains and passes, while others will stick to low-level forest and woodland areas.

We can help you to choose the routes best suited to your needs so that you can make the most of your time away.

Where to go Mountain Biking?

The National Park Authority has set out 16 mountain bike routes in the Brecon Beacons all of which are on public rights of way. Many of these are in the Black Mountains and very near to Longtown Outdoor Education Centre.

These routes by no means exhaust the potential of the area and there is an extensive network of bridleways to be explored.

South Wales is increasingly becoming known for its superb purpose-built forest trails like those located at Afan Forest Park. Trails such as these can be ridden in all weather conditions and avoid any navigational difficulties so that you can simply get out and have fun!

Will I need any specialist equipment?

If you do not have a suitable mountain bike then there are many places locally where you can hire one. We can help to arrange your bike hire at a good price.

A helmet is essential for your safety and suitable clothing is necessary if going out on the hills.

We can offer guidance on routes and transport to and from local areas.
